The Top "Things" in the Internet of Things

Top 10 Things in the Internet of Things

Remember David Letterman? He used to be famous for his Top 10 Lists. Anyways I saw a picture of him the other day and it inspired me to come up with a top list of IoT "Things" that I've seen recently in the IoT Universe.

Essentially a list of those IoT ideas, concepts, products the seem really cool and innovative. So here they are in no particular order (click on the titles to link through to each product)...

Released in the USA in 2015 and initially retailing at $19.95 USD but now much cheaper this small tab the size of your thumb with a single button when paired with a smart phone app allowed users to purchase/ restock a particular consumable item with one click. So for example the tag might be attached to a box of laundry soap. When the box of laundry soap was empty you would simply click a button, the tag connected with a central website and laundry soap was automatically added to your next grocery order and shipped to you the next day.

Yes I know there are lot of IoT Home Automation Systems out on the market now. I just think Google's home automation solution is a good example of what you can do with an IoT connected home.

I have played with a few different "wearables" and so far I really prefer the form and features of the Microsoft Band. The only issue is the reliability. I've had to replace mine three times now. Microsoft have efficiently and quickly given me a new one. But the fact that I've had to go through three of them in less than a few months is a bit of a concern. But the concept is still cool.

Ninja Blocks (Ninja Sphere ) is a hardware and software platform designed to bridge smart devices together. By connecting to products from various brands you can start using them in new and exciting ways.

Nike + is an activity tracker embedded in your shoe.

Xively is an IoT Platform designed to let you deliver IoT products and services faster and easier.

A programmable switch that allows you to easily control all your smart home devices.

An intelligent Liquid Pump Monitoring and Alarm System to keep your basement dry.

A cool new image sensing unit that can be built into your IoT devices.

Researchers are working on an Internet Connected Pacemaker to allow cost effective remote patient monitoring.

... these are just a few of the "cool" things I've seen over the last few months. If you know of any more do let me know and I would add them to my list.
